Expert Vet Team

At Putnam Veterinary Clinic, our skilled veterinarians combine years of medical expertise with a deep love for animals. We believe in providing personalized care for every patient, ensuring your furry and feathered friends receive the gentle attention they deserve in a welcoming environment.

Dr. Dani Shecter

Owner, Veterinarian

Dr. Dani Shecter grew up in South Florida with a lifelong love for animals and a passion for helping the people who care for them. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences from Cornell University before completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

While Dr. Dani enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, her special interests include dentistry, surgery, and Fear Free medicine. Above all, she believes that exceptional veterinary care starts with trust. She loves getting to know each pet and their family, building lasting relationships, and partnering with owners through every stage of their pet's life - from the excitement of a new puppy or kitten to the special care that senior pets deserve.

Becoming the owner of a privately owned veterinary practice was a natural extension of that philosophy. Dr. Dani wanted to create a hospital where medicine is guided by compassion, personalized care, and genuine relationships rather than corporate policies. Her goal is to provide every family with the time, attention, and support they need to make the best decisions for their pets, while treating every patient as if they were her own.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Dani enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Matt, and their spirited corgi, Quincy, who keeps them both entertained with his endless personality.

Dr. Wendy Emerson

Veterinarian

Dr. Wendy Emerson attended Danvers public schools and received her Bachelors degree in animal science from the University of Maine. She attended Tufts Veterinary School, graduating in 1985. Dr. Emerson is also an active member of many national veterinary groups, including the American Veterinary Medical Association and American Animal Hospital Association. She has been very active in organized veterinary medicine, and is a past president of the Veterinary Association of the North Shore and the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Emerson's professional interests include avian and exotic pet medicine, surgery, and dentistry in all species. She currently resides in Topsfield with her husband, stepdaughter, two dogs, one cat, and two guinea pigs. Her 2 parrots, Rafiki and Sugar, live at the clinic and can frequently be heard chatting away in the hospital's quiet moments. When not at the clinic Dr. Emerson enjoys traveling and riding her horse, motorcycle and bicycle.

Dr. Rachel Illingworth

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Rachel Illingworth has been with Putnam Veterinary Clinic since 2006. Growing up on a dairy farm in Nova Scotia developed her keen interest in animals. She graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and has practiced in the United States since 1993.

In her spare time, Dr. Illingworth may be found trying to hit small white balls into little round holes, or traveling with family and friends. Dr. I's furry and feathered family consists of a rambunctious corgi, and an African grey parrot.

Jamie pic.jpeg

Jamie has been a valued member of Putnam Veterinary Clinic since 2009, starting her journey as a receptionist before quickly advancing to Lead Receptionist within her first year. Over time, she took on the role of executive assistant to Dr. Emerson while also assisting at the front desk and even gaining experience as a technician assistant. After years of unofficially managing the practice, she now holds the official title of practice manager, though she still enjoys spending time at the front desk to connect with clients.

Outside of work, Jamie enjoys time with her fiance,  daughter, and bonus kids, and she shares a special bond with her daughter through their mutual love of horses, often spending any free time they have at the barn or at a horse show.
