To the Clients of Putnam Veterinary Clinic:
As some of you may know, Dr. Fabian's final day at the clinic was June 8th. She took a unique opportunity to pursue post doctoral studies at MIT and we wish her all the best! This has left a rather large void for the practice as well as our clients and patients. Dr. Fabian treated cats and dogs along with our exotic patients as well. Dr. Emerson and Dr. Illingworth have both accepted extra shifts to try to make up for some lost coverage, but we still having difficultly fitting in every patient that needs to be seen.
We are working diligently to find the perfect replacement, but as you can imagine that isn't an easy task. We ask for your patience during this challenging time when it comes to booking appointments. Our routine appointments are being booked approximately 2 weeks out. Routine appointments are for physical exams, vaccines, nail trims, avian/exotic grooming and problems that have been going on for a significant amount of time.
When it comes to emergent appointments, we allot several "SAME DAY" urgent care times that are not to be booked until that day. We set these aside so patients who are having an emergency can be seen when all of our other appointments have been booked. If you have an emergency it is recommended that you call as soon as the clinic opens at 8 am to request a same day appointment. These SAME DAY appointments are given on a first come, first served basis for urgent issues. These appointments are not for routine matters. If you are having an emergency and we cannot accommodate you we will refer you to Bulger Emergency Hospital in North Andover or Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital in Woburn (Cats/Dogs) and VCA in Wakefield or Angell Memorial (Boston) for our exotic patients.
We appreciate your understanding during this transition period and we will keep everyone updated with changes.
The Staff at Putnam Veterinary Clinic
Our goal is to treat our clients as we would treat our families, and to treat our patients as if they were our own pets. We realize that our clients are the heart of our practice, so we always strive to treat them with respect and consideration. We always treat our patients with compassion and kindness; we never forget the importance of the bond between an owner and his or her pet.
Putnam Veterinary Clinic services Canine, Feline, Avian and Exotic patients. See our full list here.
Dr. Wendy Emerson
Dr. Wendy Emerson spent eight years as an associate veterinarian in the North Shore area before starting her own small animal house call practice in 1993. In 2001 the mobile practice was incorporated into the full service Putnam Veterinary Clinic, which opened in its current form at Parson's Corner in Topsfield. The name of the clinic is an acknowledgement of Dr. Emerson's family heritage, as she is a direct descendant of the famous Revolutionary War General, Israel Putnam. Her family founded and continues to run the world famous Putnam Pantry Candies and Ice Cream in Danvers, home of the original "ice cream smorgasboard".
Our modern facility allows us to see appointments and perform surgery on a daily basis, however we continue to offer house calls to our clients once a month, or by appointment.
What also sets us apart from other veterinary clinics is that while we love our dog and cat patients, the Doctors at Putnam Veterinary Clinic also have extensive experience in treating avian and exotic pets! We see birds, rabbits, rodents, reptiles, ferrets, and other exotic pets for routine and urgent medical care.
